Dermaplaning Vancouver WA
Dr. Grishkevich he offers professional dermaplaning treatments to improve your complexion, reduce signs of aging, and enhance skin health.
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that removes dirt, dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and oils from the surface of your skin. Also known as dermablading, the procedure removes the outermost layer of skin to stimulate cell turnover. A facial derma treatment also removes the very fine vellus hair on your face.
Microdermabrasion vs. Dermaplaning
Microdermabrasion and dermaplaning are similar in the sense that both treatments remove the damaged outer layers of skin, as well as dirt, oils, and other substances. The key difference between these two procedures is how each is performed. Dermaplaning is performed with a surgical scalpel, and microdermabrasion is performed with a handheld device that emits tiny crystals at a high speed. If you have healthy skin and few flaws, either treatment will work for you. Microdermabrasion does cause your skin to be slightly red for one to two days. Microdermabrasion is not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing. You should also opt for dermaplaning if you have sensitive skin or recently had a chemical peel. One of the primary cons of dermaplaning with a surgical scalpel is that there may be limited results when treating acne scars. If you are interested in dermaplaning for acne scars, we use a dermatome rather than the scalpel. A dermatome has a blade that moves back and forth to reduce acne scars.
Does Removing Peach Fuzz from My Face Cause Acne?
Removing peach fuzz is one of the many benefits of shaving your face with a dermaplaning facial. An acne breakout after dermaplaning is one of the most common concerns among people who are considering the treatment. Many believe that the peach fuzz somehow prevents dirt, oils, and dead skin cells from entering the pores, but this is not the case. In fact, removing vellus hair from your face helps skincare products penetrate better. For normal skin, a dermaplaning facial will not cause a breakout. If you have acne-prone skin, you may experience a breakout if you have the treatment during an active breakout. We recommend that you have one of our other treatments to reduce your acne and then maintain your skin health with dermaplaning.
Does Facial Hair Grow Thicker After Dermaplaning?
Using a derma razor on your face does remove vellus hair, but the hair does not grow back thicker. Vellus hair is different from other types of hair that are removed with regular shaving. Vellus hair does grow back, but it is the same color and thickness as before your micro-shaving dermaplane treatment.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
If you compare how your skin looks and feels before dermaplaning and after the difference, you will see a noticeable improvement. Some of the dermaplaning benefits that make this a favorite treatment among our patients are:
- Smooth skin
- Healthy, radiant complexion
- Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
- Less visible acne scars
Who is a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning
Most everyone is a good candidate for our dermaplaning treatment, including women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Our dermaplaning scalpel facial is completely non-invasive and does not involve the use of any chemical solutions. There are some skin conditions that preclude you from having the treatment due to the uncertainty of dermaplaning results and possible damage to your skin. You should consider one of our other skin treatments if you have:
- Burns on your skin
- Cold sores
- Rashes
- Eczema
- ctive acne
- Psoriasis
Dermaplaning at NW Laser in Vancouver, WA
We use a surgical scalpel for our dermaplaning treatments at NW Laser. The dermaplaning razor is placed against your skin at a specific angle and slowly pulled across your skin. The dermaplaning tool removes dead skin cells, oils, dirt, and vellus hair to reveal softer, smoother, healthier skin.
Dermaplaning Aftercare
Shaving dead skin and vellus hair with a dermaplaning treatment requires no downtime, but there is some aftercare to ensure the best possible results. Keep in mind that your skin is more sensitive after treatment with a dermaplaning face scraper.
- Avoid direct sunlight and exposure to extreme heat for at least three days
- For the first seven days, exposure to chlorine (such as in swimming pools and hot tubs)
- Don’t use any skincare products that exfoliate or scrub your skin for the first week after the treatment
- Use high-quality sunscreen, moisturizers, and serums each day after your dermaplaning treatment
Dermaplaning Risks and Side Effects
Using the wrong tools for face scraping can result in dermaplaning gone wrong. Some of the most common risks and side effects are:
- Scarring
- Infection
- Long-term or permanent changes to skin color
Dermaplaning At Home Tips
You can find many dermaplaning tools for home use, such as the Stacked Skincare dermaplaning tool. We can advise you as to the best dermaplaning tool for your skin. You’ll need to follow the dermaplaning steps in the instructions very carefully. We recommend that if you are new to microblading, practice on your arm or another inconspicuous place. Please note that at-home use of a dead skin remover tool for your face may produce inconsistent and undesirable results. It is best to have this type of treatment from the team at NW Laser.
